| Gay Relationship Milestones
Like any relationship, gay relationships can be exciting. As you learn about your partner, their likes and dislikes, the mutual attraction you share, and you experience an amazing relationship, the milestones your relationship surpasses become important. Of course, every couple is different. What may seem like a milestone to some may not be considered necessarily important to another couple. I know a gay couple that has dinner out every week. They are celebrating a weekly anniversary and have since the very first week they started dating. They've been together seven years. However, most couples I know do not celebrate quite so often! Yet, there are some basic relationship milestones that definitely should be considered. How you celebrate is up to you and your partner, but here are just some of our suggestions for you to consider. Three Months The three-month anniversary may - or may not - be important to you. You've survived the very first part of the 'getting to know' you process. Obviously you have somewhat similar interests if you've managed to make it this far! Still, this isn't an anniversary to go overboard on. Perhaps you will want to plan a simple, quiet evening at home or an intimate night on the town with just you and your guy. However you may choose to celebrate, remember to make the anniversary romantic and fun. The goal is to survive another three months - or more! Six Months Congratulations, you've made it another three months! Even though this is a whole half of a year together, it is still not universally celebrated. Similar to the three-month anniversary mark it is best to keep the celebration low-key. Make sure to remind your guy exactly how special he is to you. Take him out to show him off, or keep him at home where you can have him all to yourself. However, don't be throwing any parties yet. The big six-month bash just doesn't have a ring to it, and seems a bit overdramatic - even for those of us in the gay community. One Year This is often the most universally celebrated anniversary in most relationships. You've made it a year! You should be proud of yourself - and of your partner. Once you've hit that one-year anniversary you should feel comfortable enough to be able to celebrate any way you want. Perhaps you might have friends over for a small bash, or perhaps you still want an intimate celebration that is just between you and your lover. Either way, you deserve a night devoted just for the two of you as a reward and a celebration of just how devoted you both are to one another! After the first year the tradition is usually to celebrate your anniversary every year. Once you've celebrated your first anniversary it isn't typical to have monthly celebrations. Yearly celebrations are often intimate affairs that involve dinner, presents, and loving moments that renew your devotion to one another. Ten Years If you've made it ten years then congratulations! Now is the time to party B-I-G. You can throw a huge party to celebrate, complete with family and friends present. Perhaps you will make reservations at your favorite restaurant, or have a small party at home. Either way, the celebration will be well-earned for both you and your guy. The celebration, of course, will most likely continue at home once you are alone :). You will be able to make an intimate 'toast' to one another on your ten successful years together. Twenty Five Years It has been done before! Do not get discouraged if you do not think twenty-five years together is possible. However, your friends and family will most likely be planning the party for you! Sit back, relax, and wait for the festivities to begin. Once you and your love return home you can spend the night sharing memories from the past and rejoicing in your life together. Fifty Years Those couples who make it fifty years are our role models. The gay men who truly want a long lasting committed relationship are looking to you as our guide. We want to know how you've done it, and hope one day we achieve such greatness as well. The party is on us and we'll be telling all your family, friends, and the media about such a celebratory occasion simply because it deserves recognition! By this point you've surpassed all milestones. Your life together has been rich and fulfilling and now its time to truly reflect upon the past and celebrate the future! Read ALL of Our Articles > |
